We had a great time April 4th in Arroyo City Texas! A premier waterfront lodge located on the Arroyo Colorado near the Laguna Madre and South Padre Island, perfect for sportsmen of all stripes. It is the last piece of private property before the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge, and the lodge has a lighted pier for guests who wish to indulge in night fishing. We test drove an incredible new kayak.. yes it splits into a 3 point platform so you can stand up and fly fish then .. sit down grab the handels a quick pull and you are on your way!

Greg tells a lil about our adventure Below!

Skinny Water Sojourn
Red fish Hunting in the Laguna Madre

Sight fishing redfish on the drift is a lesson in patience and humility! You've got to take a different tack to engage one of these elusive creatures, and my new Freedom Hawk Kayak was the winning ticket on our recent outing. The only yak I've seen that allows me to stand comfortably and safely while fishing is an engineering marvel. Two retractable pontoons convert this basic sit-on-top to a casting platform in seconds.

We were out shooting an episode of our upcoming Sportsman Channel show “Eco-Fishing Adventures” in Early April, and the weather conditions on the Laguna Madre (south Texas) were pretty good. We had some wind, but that’s nothing new down there, and we were drifting over some very fishy areas, when my partner Michael Herbach suggested I make a cast back toward the chase boat. Since I’d had only one solid strike so far that morning, I took him up on his suggestion and dropped that lead head about 5 feet from the boat. I think I made about 5 cranks before I felt a solid “thud” that stopped my retrieve cold. Then I heard the lovely sound of my drag singing in the Texas breeze and the fight was on (check it out on You Tube at Eco-Fishing Adventures-Freedom Hawk). That redfish was quite a fighter, and gave me all I could handle from the strike to the time I boated that spectacular fish. Our host, Jeff (Outdoor Adventures, Inc) was busy with a couple of very nice sea trout at the same time, also fishing from a Freedom Hawk, so we ended up with the fixin’s for a pretty fine fish fry that evening.

If you’re a yak man like me, you should try out one of these Freedom Hawks. Having the opportunity to stand up and sight fish from a kayak is a real treat. After a few hours on my butt, I really cherish that stand up option. Gives you a whole different perspective on the fishin’ territory as well.

Hope to see you out on the water sometime. When we hook up, remind me to tell you about the lawn chair option on the Freedom Hawk – it’s pretty decadent!

Greg Johnson Eco Fishing Adventures

So come with us and enjoy one of the wildest ways to fish the Laguna Madre. Sneek up on the fish like no one in a boat can do. Drift over potholes without spooking redfish and trout, sitting down deep, waiting for a vulnerable baitfish to swim by.

Watch the bait school, the rays feed and the crabs protect their space while being one with your surroundings.

We also will be Tasting and sampling with our cooking Guy Harvey Wines

May 2007:

Last May we took an adventure took us to the Caribbean island of Utila, the smallest of the three Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras. Not nearly as well known as its larger neighbor, Roatan, Utila is a quaint island paradise positioned on the second largest barrier reef in the world. Warm, crystal clear water, teeming with colorful fish - this place was perfect for another unique Eco-Fishing Adventure.

Paul Lanteigne- Canadian Fisherman share some of his big catches Last Year!

54lbs Lake trout,
1 hour 57 minutes to land
caught on 8 lbs test line (maybe a line record)
Caught at Basler Lake in the North West Territories.
While trolling a Cisco Kid on a down rigger 60 ft down.
The fish in this lake would smash into the trolling motor thinking it was food.
After thinking we were having trany problems with the kicker motor on the boat,
a fish missed the motor and came flying in the boat!! no kidding man.

75lbs, Blue Marlin(the rarest of all the Marline)
Caught in Maui on a private charter with my son joseph.
Trolling rubber flies at 6-7 knots on the surface.
amazing fight
took about 20 min to land.
Barracuda,
42lbs Barracuda caught in Punta Bete Mexico on a private charter
took around 15min to land, caught trolling with live bait!
Fishing in The Jungles of Nicaragua
Yaros Place "SABALOS LODGE"

This is the new record in Canada. He caught it on Rainy Lake.

Check this thing out.. The last picture is unbelievable!

This guy (in the photos below), was fishing and caught a 36"
Pike - as he was reeling it in, a 56" Pike tried to eat it!!!!! He
brought them both in on the same net.

Awesome catch on a river in Canada - 55lbs- 56 inches.
In mid August, Michael, Greg, Ralf, and family members went to Estero Beach
to celebrate Captain Jack's birthday. His wonderful lady, Patty Smith, threw
a great outdoor bash complete with most excellent roasted pig. To top it
off she booked Ensenada Sprotfishing Work's nicest boat, the ultra modern
Morgan James, for Captain Jack to take a few of his favorite fishin' buddies out
for a day of fishing.

Captain Jack brought along Michael, Greg, and myself for a day of fishing on the Morgan James with our skippers
Carlos & Lucas. The day after the party we left the Ensenada Sportfishing
docks bright & late at approx. 9:00am & headed out to Todos Santos loaded with
live Sardines to try for yellows. No good that day so we headed toward
Punta Banda, where the Bonita were going hot & heavy. Michael filmed some
footage for Eco while Greg & I fished them on 6 or 8 lb test making for long line
stripping fights. The other guys went a bit heavier. We caught the super
fighters virtually non stop for about 3 hours before we opted to move into the
rocks to go for some Calicos. We pulled in a hand full of Chunky Calicos by
free lining Sardines until the seals became too persistent and we were pulling
in rolly polly fish heads!

Here we are with the owner of Ensenada Sport fishing Works, Larry, and his son Morgan . If you want to go fishing out of Ensenda, I would recomment
these guys highly. Carlos & Lucas did a great job. This is a great boat to go
out longer range when the exotics are around. These guys get onto fish &
the boat ride can be much shorter than from San Diego, depending on where the
fish are. Thanks Patty for setting up a very fun day!!

"Trout on Ice"

June 2006

Lets' Hook Up Talk Radio
Greg Johnson (Manhattan Beach, CA) visited Virginia
Lakes in the Eastern Sierra in Mid-June and caught and released over 100
trout under perfect conditions. "I fished with my friend Chuck Cate from
Fairfax, CA (Marin County) and we had some great days on Little and Big
Virginia. Chuck used to be my boss in Calabasas, and we became friends and
have stayed in touch since 1999. We fly fished from our float tubes, using
a few different color wooly buggers. We also caught quite a few fish using
spinning gear and "trout treaser" jigs in green and white.

The ice was still breaking up on Big Virginia, and I actually caught 10 fish
one afternoon by casting
to the iceberg, and letting the jig float under it. Lot's of fun!
CORBINA AT MANHATTAN BEACH
Here's my yesterday's fish report from Marina del rey again (parked in Cheesecake again).

Action wasn't real exciting - I was hoping 4 keeper Butts but just got Needledicks (3) & Croaker (2).
